While everyone was celebrating that Destiny 2 would support cross-play across all platforms. Bungie was quietly dropping some frustrating news, which will affect the status of Destiny 2 on the Stadia. In a nutshell, Destiny 2 on Stadia will not partake in the cross-play fun. Which is quite the bummer
Pointed today by PCGamer, Bungie recently updated their Destiny 2 FAQ and added a section for Stadia. While basically spells out what can be speculated as complete and utter doom for the Stadia version of the game.
For more information on Stadia, please see the Stadia Founder’s Edition page.
Q: Can players pre-order Google Stadia Founder’s edition right now, and setup Cross Save for their account at a later date?
A: Yes. Players may purchase Stadia Founder’s Edition from Google’s product page now, and enable Cross Save on their account at a later date.Q: Will Stadia feature cross-play with Steam or other platforms?
A: Stadia is its own ecosystem, just like current existing platforms. Stadia players will only be able to play with other Stadia players.
Sure, cross-save is in and it does help take some of the sting out of this news. Still, the big news going into E3 2019 was upcoming cross-play. Bungie has stated they do want cross-play in Destiny 2, but they aren’t sure when that will happen. So if and when it does, what does this mean for Stadia?
Needless to say, this is quite worrisome, not only Destiny 2 on Stadia but other games as well. Could this mean that any games that feature cross-play that head to Stadia will be gimped as well? What does this mean for another game such as Dauntless or Rocket League, or even Fortnite?
Update: The general manager of the Destiny series, Mark Noseworthy picked up the story and commented on this. His reply is that for now, Bungie is devoted to making sure cross-save will work as intended. After which they’ll look at cross-play at a later date.

Now, before we start trashing Stadia, we have to look at why this is happening. Perhaps it’s just a matter of time once (if) cross-play happens. Or maybe Bungie simply wants to make things a bit fairer. Stadia isn’t out yet and no one outside of Google knows its potential. Of course, this is all video game stuff and this could be reverted or changed at any time.
Yes, I was a bit negative about hearing this prior, but now we’ll just have to wait to see what happens. That is again, if cross-play happens. Which by the sound of it all, might be happening at a later date. What about you? What do you think about this recent turn of events?
