Marvel‘s Avengers, developed by Crystal Dynamics in collaboration with Eidos-Montréal, was finally unveiled at Square Enix’s E3 press conference, and you’ll be able to get your hands on the game on May 15 next year.
The game is a narrative focused adventure playable solo or with up to four players. Players can take control of Captain America, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow, and Iron Man in an all-new original story. The game won’t be connected to any other Marvel video games. This is Crystal Dynamics’ vision for the Avengers universe.
On A-Day, the Avengers are celebrating the opening of their West Coast HQ, when things go awry. The Avengers are then outlawed, forcing them to disband, but five years later, they are forced to reassemble. You can get a glimpse at the story in the trailer below.
The game will feature a star-studded cast of some of the most prominent voice actors in the video game industry, featuring Nolan North as Tony Stark, Troy Baker as Bruce Banner, Laura Bailey as Black Widow, Travis Willingham as Thor, and Jeff Schine as Captain America.
All DLC will be free, and players can expect new locations and even new heroes over the game’s lifespan. We got a peek at one of those other heroes, with Hank Pym (Ant-Man) appearing briefly at the end of the release date reveal trailer, which you can check out below. It doesn’t look like he’s playable, but that doesn’t mean he won’t be in the future. At least it shows that we’ll be running into other Marvel heroes over the course of the story, rather than just sticking to the core Avengers team.
PlayStation 4 players will receive bonus content, although it’s unclear how far this exclusivity will go. However, PlayStation 4 owners will get early access to the game’s beta, which will take place at a later date.
Marvel’s Avengers hits store shelves on May 15, 2020. The game will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Google Stadia.
