This is the perfect time to panic
Update: All is well, YouTube is back and all is somewhat right with the world.
Original story
As you may have recently noticed, the video streaming juggernaut, YouTube, is currently experiencing some issues. At the time of this posting, the entirety of the platform is suffering from degraded performance. So before you start threatening to take a hammer to your modem, router or whatever you’re using to get online. It’s not its fault.
From what we’re able to find out, it would seem that the fault is with Google’s cloud. At least for the moment, the entire East Coast of North America has reported issues. With more complaints coming in from all over the globe. The main services affected are the Google Compute Engine and Google’s Cloud Networking. I’m sure this isn’t what Google wanted to hear right about now.

However, it’s just YouTube that’s affected by this. Anything that’s depending on Google’s cloud or backbone is also affected. Meaning services like Google Hangouts, Google Drive, Gmail or anything with Google attached to it. Discord is also experiencing issues and has confirmed this as well.

Monitoring – Google Cloud is currently having an issue with their networking. This is affecting many web sites, including Discord, and there is, unfortunately, nothing we can do at this time. Google is working on it and we are standing by to take any actions on our end that might become necessary, but until then, our best advice is to hang tight and we’re sorry for the inconvenience!
This incident is primarily impacting users in the northeastern part of the North American continent, but due to the vagaries of Internet routing, is also impacting some western European users.

It would seem that several games such as Battalion 1944, Rocket League are also experience issues.
Google is aware of the problem and is working on correcting it. But we just wanted to let you know that you’re not alone. We feel your pain that you aren’t able to watch any more cute kitten videos on YouTube. Hopefully, this gets resolved soon.
