Not sure what to pick up in April 2019?
We’ve survived Resident Evil 2, Devil May Cry V and The Division 2 and even Sekiro (barely), but now we’re in April 2019. Another month, which means it’s time for more games. Thankfully, this month is going to be a bit easier on your wallet and purses as there aren’t as many high profile games releasing this month. Oh, we totally didn’t say any of them were being released though.
Below are several titles releasing this month that we’re sure you’re going to want to pick up. One, some or even all of them, it’s all up to you. Just take it easy, as May 2019 is shaping up to be a killer month.
Super Dragon Ball Heroes World Mission (PC, Switch) – April 5
It’s not the continuation of the anime that people were looking forward to, but I suppose it’s the next best thing. Super Dragon Ball Heroes: World Mission is the follow-up to Super Dragon Ball Heroes: Ultimate Mission X and will focus on the arrival of a new hero in the Dragon Ball universe. A card-based game, players join the heroes of the Dragon Ball characters as they try to stop the onslaught from villains of the game that have somehow come to life and are attacking the real world.
According to Bandai Namco, there will be over 350 characters, over 1,000 cards, a mission-creation mode, and online/local co-op modes. Definitely more than enough here for even the most jaded Dragon Ball fan.
Days Gone (PS4) – April 26
The upcoming coming open-world action game for the PlayStation 4, that has you trying to survive not only the end of the world. But also the ever-looming threat of zombies that want to gobble you up. Developed by Sony’s Bend Studio, Days Gone has been quite the popular title ever since it was announced back during 2015. You play the role of Deacon St. John, an outlaw turned drift and bounty hunter who just wants to survive all the madness.
A single-player game, Days Gone will feature multiple ways to complete objectives, a hefty amount of gameplay and a PlayStation 4 exclusive title.
Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age (Xbox One, Switch) – April 30
The remastered version of Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age, is making its way to the Xbox One and Switch. Previously released for the PlayStation, this updated version includes several updates that bring the game to the modern consoles, such as a highspeed mode which enables travel much faster. A trial mode that hardcore players can tackle outside of the main game. The International Zodiac Job System also was added, which was only available in Final Fantasy XII international, a Japan-only title. Don’t forget the enhanced graphics, which some have argued has changed the appeal of the game.
Even still, Final Fantasy XII is arguably one of the better Final Fantasy games and one that many shouldn’t miss out on.
Mortal Kombat 11 (PC, PS4, Xbox One, Switch) – April 23
Do I really need to explain why you should be all over this? I do? Ok, have it your way. Time travel, multiple characters, an insanely fun fighting game. Over the top moves, and of course, a story that doesn’t take its self seriously at all. Lots of returning characters, and it’s coming to all major platforms. It’s Mortal Kombat, I shouldn’t have to sell this to you.
I’m not the biggest fan of the series, that much I admit. However, after playing in both beta’s, I’m definitely a believer. The netcode was decent, and the framerate on both the Xbox One and PS4 were solid. I’m even hearing that the Switch is also running well at 60fps.
Finish Him, or Her!
Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen (Switch) – April 23
Talk about a game that’s been around the block a lot. Originally released on the Xbox 360 and PS3 in 2013. Followed by the PC release in 2016. Then it got re-released again, this time on the Xbox One and PS4 in 2017. Now the title is making its way over to the Switch in 2019. An enjoyable Western-styled action RPG from Capcom that can hold its own to other games such as the Elder Scroll series. Switch owners now is your chance to check out this kick-ass game, so don’t miss out.
Katana Zero (PC, Switch) – April 18
Remember when games were hard as nails? When getting once met you had to restart the level all over again? Where you need to be on your toes, lest something would sneak up on you? Well, that’s what you can expect from Katana Zero. A fast-paced action platformer, that features tons of enemies, beautiful looking areas, and off the wall storytelling.
Should you get wasted, that’s ok. Not only do you have some impressive offensive skills, but you can also control time. Ensuring that your untimely death can be avoided, assuming you learned from it.
Dangerous Driving (PC, PS4, Xbox One) – April 9

From the minds that gave us the Burnout series, several members from Criterion Games formed a new studio called Three Fields Entertainment. Their goal was simple, to recreate the sensation of the Burnout series. This is arcade racing in the purest form, requiring you to race to the objective by speeding through traffic, weaving in and out of lanes, and ramming the hell out of the cars that don’t get out of your way. Yep, Takedowns are quite present here.
This sounds like the perfect way to relieve some road rage, while not actually doing so in real life. If you’ve been craving more Burnout, this might be what you’re looking for.
Which games are you picking up? Let us know in the comments!
