Ufotable, an anime studio responsible for series such as Fate/stay night Unlimited Blade Works, Fate/Zero, The Garden of Sinners, and God Eater, is currently under an investigation for possible tax evasion.
The activity in question surrounds Ufotable Representative Director Hikaru Kondo. It is claimed that Kondo was receiving money directly from merchandise sales rather than the money going into the company’s bank account. As of this writing, no official charges have been filed against Kondo or Ufotable.
The story was reported by Bungieshunju’s Weekly Bunshun Digital magazine, which reached out to Kondo/Ufotable for a statement but none was given. The studio was founded in 2000 and has become known for producing high quality (almost movie-level) anime for television.
