Wolfenstein: Youngblood, the co-op standalone sequel to Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus finally has a confirmed release date along with a story trailer, which you can check out below.
Wolfenstein: Youngblood was first announced at Bethesda’s 2018 E3 showcase, and this is the first we’ve seen of it since then. Youngblood is set 19 years after Wolfenstein II, and is centered around the twin daughters of B.J. Blazkowicz. Blazkowicz has gone missing, which sets the events of Youngblood in motion. The game is playable entirely in co-op, which is a first for the series.
The trailer presents itself as typical Wolfenstein fare, but with a cool layer of neon on top of it all, which makes sense given that the game is set in 1980’s Paris. It doesn’t seem to take itself too seriously, with twins Jessica and Sophia shouting one-liners as they mow down mobs of Nazis. Co-op play is a perfect fit for a Wolfenstein game, especially with a tone like this. Shooting Nazis with friends is always more fun than shooting Nazis by yourself.
A friend can even join your game for free, so long as you buy the deluxe edition. The deluxe edition of Youngblood comes with extra costumes and weapons, but the real highlight of the deluxe edition is the “Buddy Pass”, which allows a friend to play alongside you without owning a copy of their own. Buddy Pass players can upgrade to the full game at any time, but if they don’t they can only play with someone who actually owns a copy of Youngblood. Pre-ordering either the standard or the deluxe edition will net you these sweet bonuses:
- The Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus Jacket Power Suit
- BJ’s US Army Power Suit
- The Wolfenstein: Old Blood Pipe
- The Wolfenstein: Old Blood Knife
- A WW2 Weapon Skin Set for all ranged weapons
Wolfenstein: Youngblood will be released on July 26, 2019, for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch. The base game is priced at $30, while the deluxe edition is priced at $40.
