Another victory is had for Nintendo. Reports came in that the Nintendo Switch has outsold Microsoft’s Xbox One and Sony’s PlayStation 4 consoles in February 2019. Part of this was due to the age of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles. Both systems are at their traditional half-life of five years while the Switch is still newer, fresher, and not to forget, the only 9th generation gaming console on the market right now. Of course, we could lump Google’s Stadia in with that but let’s wait until that releases, shall we?
This is also the second month in a row where the Switch has outsold Sony and Microsoft but it’s not just about beating their non-competition competition. February’s sales for the Nintendo Switch were noted as the best February results for the company in years. In fact, this is their highest dollar sales for hardware since 2011.
In February 2011, it was the Nintendo Wii and the Nintendo DS that was leading the way financially for them. To think one single console did better than two consoles combined is no statement to just merely shrug off.
The information comes from the NPD Group who is a firm responsible for tracking gaming hardware and software sales in the United States.
