Cody Rhodes set out on a mission after leaving World Wrestling Entertainment. He set out on a mission to change the world. He traveled to New Japan Pro Wrestling and teamed with Kenny Omega, The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson), “Hangman” Adam Page, and “The Villain” Marty Scurll as a faction known as The Elite. After being told by Wrestling Observer journalist Dave Meltzer that it’s impossible for an independent show to sell out a major area, Cody and the Bucks personally funded an independent show called All In and sold out the Sears Center in Chicago, IL.
The 2018 show was a success and fans wanted more. Cody and the Young Bucks agreed and approached the Khan family, owners of the Jacksonville Jaguars. Thus, the new promotion All Elite Wrestling was born and their first show, Double or Nothing, is slated for May 25 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, NV. Tickets for the event went on sale Monday and soon after, Cody put out a tweet that simply said “4 minutes.”
This marks the second time that a wrestling promotion not named WWE or WCW sold out a major arena in the United States since 1993! Both of those accolades belong to Cody Rhodes and The Young Bucks!
The card (so far) for Double or Nothing is as follows:
Alpha vs Omega II
Kenny Omega vs Chris Jericho
“Hangman” Adam Page vs PAC
The Lucha Bros. (Pentagon Jr. & Fenix) vs The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson)
6-Man Tag
SCU (Scorpio Sky, Frankie Kazarian, Christopher Daniels) vs CIMA + 2 partners from Oriental Wrestling Entertainment
Triple Threat Match
Dr. Britt Baker vs Nyla Rose vs Kylie Rae
Cody Rhodes vs TBD
Not only has the company announced a partnership with OWE in China, but they have also announced a partnership with one of Mexico’s top wrestling promotions, AAA. Although an opponent has not named yet, AAA Cruiserweight Champion Sammy Guevara will be at Double or Nothing.
