For those who are familiar with What We Do in the Shadows, it’s a fangtastic film from back in 2014 directed by New Zealand creators Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi. The film got such a cult following that it got enough traction for its own televisions show, and yes, the trailer is now here to stake its claim in our hearts:

What We Do in the Shadows follows three vampires named Nandor, Nadja, and Laszlo, living in NYC. They are helped out by Nandor’s familiar Guillermo, who gets them new victims, helps them interact with the outside world, and generally keeps them from driving each other batty.
It still has that same mockumentary feel, and plenty of puns to go around. We also see that werewolves will be a part of the story (though Clement and Waititi are still pushing for a separate spinoff for that aspect of the universe). And also, the funniest addition of all (in my opinion): Colin, the energy vampire. It’s ridiculous, and yet, too true.
Unlike the film version, Waititi and Clement will not be in the film itself, but rather executive producing. Here’s how Clement addressed the issue when he spoke to TheWrap:
“For a couple of reasons. For one, Taika had got me to talk to [executive producer] Scott Rudin about making the show, and then just when we’d agreed to do it Taika said, ‘I’m doing Thor 3, Thor: Ragnarok.’ So it seemed like he wouldn’t have been able to be in it. And it would have been weird to have the rest of us in it and not him. And as it happened that didn’t matter, because by the time it was finished he’d finished that movie. But also just that it’s set in America and just felt like it should be different people, you know, different characters.”
What We Do in the Shadows will premiere on FX on March 27, 2019.
