A brand new year brings with it a host of new games that are dancing around in my mind right now. With all the new games that are planned to be released this year, I’m looking at my poor wallet, my time with my loved ones and pretty much any productivity that’s going out the window. But let’s be honest with each out, gaming is amazing, we love it and I suppose that’s the price we pay. That said, here are some of the announced games that I’m looking forward to this year. Keep in mind that I may have missed some titles, while others I am looking forward to that don’t have any chance of being released this year. This also doesn’t mean that I’m looking forward to other games either. It’s called my most anticipated games for a reason, not the only games I want to play this year.
DOOM Eternal
Release date: TBA

C’mon. Not only did I grow up on DOOM, but I loved DOOM (2016) as it rocked my world. The story, the combat, the music (Hell yes Mick Gordan) all of it – it was an amazing ride. That is until the end and everyone was like… what the heck is going on here? Where’s the rest? When are you going to complete the story? Yep, it ended in a cliffhanger. Thankfully DOOM Eternal is going to correct that and not only let us tear into some demons but also that traitorous Samuel Hayden. Oh, we also get our hands on the Crucible, that glowing red sword of death we saw at the end of DOOM 2016.
Yes, please give us DOOM!
Resident Evil 2 Remake

I can’t even begin to count how many times I’ve played Resident Evil 2 on the PlayStation 2. It was an amazing adventure back then, and thankfully Capcom realized that with an updated graphics engine, some new textures and tweaks that it would still be an amazing game today. Fans of the horror genre are going fall in love with this game all over again, or for the first time if they’ve never played the original game. I’m counting down the days until this game is released and we don’t have long to go now. Speaking of which, if you haven’t checked out our “Everything we know about Resident Evil 2 Remake“, then you should as we got everything you need to get up to speed.
Anthem
Release date: February 22, 2019

When EA and Bioware said they were working on a new IP that would let us explore a new world in suits that make even the most jaded Ironman fan jump with excitement, I was onboard. Now that I’ve seen the game in action and seen some a glimpse of what we’ll be able to do, as well as the narrative and the setup. Well, let’s just say that I plan on diving in head first into Anthem and I don’t expect to come up for air anytime soon. Javelins, lots of weapons, stuff to find and blow up, not to mention a massive world? Oh, did I mention I love loot shooters? Yep, I’m 100% onboard. Microtransactions be damned.
Atomic Heart

Not much is know about Atomic Heart and that’s ok. In fact, the only reason I’m looking forward to this game is thanks to the trailer. Vibes of several games I’ve enjoyed in the past, such as Half-Life, Bioshock and Fallout came rushing over me when I watched the trailer and I really liked that. Hopefully, the developers give us a bit more info on the game in the upcoming months.
Metro Exodus
Release date: February 15, 2019
Platforms: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC
The first two games of the series were easily some of my favorite games of the previous years. The gunplay, the characters, the story that made you wonder about the motives of those surrounding you and the multiple endings. Great games that still hold up today. As for Exodus, I still remember screaming at the top of lungs when they announced this at Microsoft’s 2017 E3 conference, which I happened to attend that year. This time around we won’t be confined to Moscow and will be traveling all over the countryside with other Rangers, in an adventure that will supposedly unravel during the course of a year. Plus the developers are stating that the game will also include a day and night cycle, as well as dynamic weather that will impact the environments. Tell me that doesn’t sound interesting?
Devil May Cry 5

I know I’m not the only one who’s stoked (yes I said that) that after all these years we’re getting a new Devil May Cry. All our favorites are returning, along with a new character as well as the same great action that made us fall in love the first game. I’ve had a few hands-on with the game and I couldn’t get enough. Anyone who calls themselves a Devil May Cry or an action/ hack & slash fan needs to get this when it drops.
The Division 2
Release date: March 15, 2019
Platforms: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC
The original The Division and I have had a weird relationship. One moment I love it, the next I hated it. That is until the most recent updates were released and turned it into the game that I originally hoped it would be. Now the shine is gone again, but it looks like part two is going to change all that. I’ve been following the game, watching the gameplay videos and this is shaping up to continue what was started at the end of the first game. Or at the very least I hope it does. A new location, Washington D.C, a new problem, new gear, talents and lots of gunplay. Yep, I’m pretty excited for this.
Mortal Kombat 11

Truth be told, I’ve always enjoyed the Mortal Kombat games – in moderation. Some of the entries were amazing, some not so much. However, after the release of Mortal Kombat X, I’ve been hooked on the deadly fighter series. Thankfully that heavily rumored MK11 entry isn’t a rumor anymore. Looks like we’ll see lots of our old favorites return, hopefully with some new characters as well. And is that… time travel? What exactly is going on here?
But seriously, that rap music did not go well with this trailer at all.
Gears of War 5

There’s not really much to say about Gears of War 5. I enjoyed the original trilogy (except Judgement, yuck) and while I also enjoyed the fourth entry I felt that the game was played to close to the hip. I wanted this to kick off a new trilogy and do it with a bang. Only it didn’t. However, it looks like that in Gears of War 5 that’s all going to change. The main story revolves around Kait and her pursuit to find out what exactly is going on with her family’s past. And she’s not too thrilled that her friends aren’t on the same page. Locust or not, you don’t wanna miss this.
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
Release date: March 22, 2019
Platforms: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC
From the house that brought us Demon’s Souls, Dark Souls and Bloodborne comes a new unique action/adventure title. Unlike the previous titles, this one is a bit more grounded so to speak – at least when it comes to the character development. Another big difference between Fromsoftware’s other titles is that this game will have verticality that will let the game do things like run and attack from rooftops or trees. From what I’ve heard about the game so far, it’s is a lot of fun while still providing the challenge that we’ve enjoyed from the Soulborne games. I’ve already dropped my pre-order for the collector’s edition of this game, and the wait has been killing me.
Daemon x Machina

I’ve always loved the Armored Core games, what I haven’t loved is that we haven’t seen a newer title in the series in forever. Thankfully, that’s going to change – sorta of. Daemon x Machina comes from the mind of Kenichiro Tsukuda, who also worked on several of the Armored Core games. With Shoji Kawamori along for the ride, who also designed many of the Armored Core mechas. So you can say that this title is basically a spiritual successor. Plenty of fast-paced combat, unique designs, all of which look to be an interesting title for the Switch. But they had me with mecha.
Honorable Mention: Kingdom Hearts 3

Now, I know what you’re thinking. Why is Kingdom Hearts 3 listed as an honorable mention? Well to be perfectly honest, while I’ve followed the series, I’ve never completed ANY of the games. Meaning it would be silly and stupid of me to jump right into the latest game in the series without playing the others. Trust me, I’ll get around to this but for the time being, I’ll stick to watching others play this. There’s a slight chance I may be lying about not playing it though, we’ll have to wait and see.
