Ah, Halloween, the indisputable best time of the year. So what better way to celebrate it that surrounded with cute things!…okay, now that I’ve written that, I can see why that might seem counterintuitive, but I think Halloween is something everyone should enjoy, from people who love horror and gore to people who just like the aesthetic and nothing more. So when I saw an ad for Doki Doki crate’s Halloween box, I decided to give it a try.
I will say right off the back, it is nice that they give you a little guide in the box so that you can understand what it is exactly that you got, because otherwise I would have been a little confused. It also comes with a comic which…I can’t lie, I did not understand at all, but that’s neither here nor there.
Box Design
I have to say that I appreciate that the box comes with a special design for the season, so it gets a pretty immediate boost. The inside is covered in cute-creepy designs and candy, and the outer cover helps it stand out from the rest of the boxes. Definitely a small detail that pays off big!
Black Cat Purse
This is probably my favorite item in the box. It’s actually pretty hefty in weigh, but the majority of it is stuffing. There is a very small space that can fit some cash or a credit card, but not else. But if you’re going to the kind of outing where a kitty purse would be appropriate, you’re probably not taking a lot with you. The lining of the bag itself has a cute paw print pattern that really ties with the overall look. The cat is very sturdy and good quality, though the string that makes it wearable reminds you that this is probably for children and not for a Halloween rave.
Kuromi Plush
I feel like this is playing off of the highly popular Tsum Tsums that Disney makes, which makes sense from a marketing perspective. Kuromi is a character from the Sanrio universe (aka the company that make Hello Kitty and Aggretsuko) and is supposed to be the sort of dark and edgy one…or at least, one of them. In terms of a plush, it’s a solid build, not a lot of give but has beans inside for a fun texture. It’s small enough to be fun decor for a desk or car, or to use to throw around or as a stress ball. The only downside is that the quality of the fabric is a little lackluster in the details.
Black Cat Picks
These cute little things make me wish I made bento lunch because, yes, that is what they are for. These are food decorations are supposed to make you excited to eat the food and make it Instagram worthy, which I think it awesome. The cats are pretty high quality, and thanks that they are
Little Twins Stars Tote Bag
This is the worst item, and the one that feels the most out of place in terms of the item. It looks and feels cheap, and the design is pretty ugly, and not even well printed. It’s the third Sanrio item, and it’s not even very Halloween themed. The tote has a velcro closure which is a nice touch but honestly, it’s more suitable for laundry. I will give it this, it is indeed waterproof so it’s also nice for a pool or beach bag.
Kuromi Socks
I was a little worried about these socks, given that sizes in Japan tend to run kind of small. I have pretty average feet size for ladies in America, so I figured if they fit me, it would be a good sign. And they do fit…but the fabric is kind of rough and scratchy. They fit just fine but they’re not exactly comfortable, which I guess makes sense given that they had to be relatively cost effective. Points off for giving us another Kuromi item. Still though, the design is very cute and if you’ve got small feet, these will probably work great for you.
Summary
The box is very cute and the overall theme is a lot of fun, but there are certain items that are just misses. Still, overall it’s fun and has a lot of potential.
