Steven Moffat may be done with Doctor Who but he’s not leaving the BBC just yet. He and Sherlock actor and collaborator Mark Gatiss are creating a TV adaptation of Dracula that will air on both the BBC and Netflix.
According to Variety, the BBC has commissioned the duo to write up three 90-minute installments for the first season, and Netflix will carry the show for non-U.K. markets. Sue Vertue’s Hartswood Films is set to produce the project. In a shared statement, both Moffat and Gatiss said, “There have always been stories about great evil. What’s special about Dracula is that Bram Stoker gave evil its own hero.”
There’s no news as to when we can expect to see the series, let alone learn who will be playing the titular blood-sucking Transylvanian. As a team up, the two have proven they can produce quality content, as the majority of Sherlock was a critical success and highly praised amongst fans. Still, gothic horror is a relatively new territory for the both of them, so we’ll have to see how well they adapt the work and what new elements they can bring. Still, always good to hear that we’ll be getting another take on the most infamous vampire in literature.
