Is Diablo III getting cross-platform play on the PS4, Xbox One, and Switch? It definitely looks like it.
When Blizzard first released Diablo III on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the first question that was asked was it the game would get cross-platform play. Of course, at that time, that was out of the question. Then that question reared its head again when Diablo: III Eternal Collection was announced for the Switch. There wasn’t an answer provided or at least none that I saw or heard. However, now it seems that cross-platform play for the consoles is in the cards after all.
During an interview conducted by Business Insider Australia, a Blizzard Entertainment representative mentioned that Blizzard “actively working with partners at Sony and Microsoft to enable cross-console play with Diablo III on Switch.”
It’s a question of when, not if.
Think about that for a second. They’re not working with just Nintendo and Microsoft, or Sony and Nintendo. They’re working with all of the aforementioned companies, and that’s a very good thing for us. This also comes after Sony’s changed their stance on allowing PS4 Fortnite players to play alongside/against others on the Xbox One and Switch. Which is amazing news, as Diablo III is a multiplayer game. What better way to play then with friends, regardless of which system they own?
There’s no eta on when this will happen as of yet. However, Diablo: III Eternal Collection is heading to the Switch this November 2nd, 2018. We’re still a few weeks away from that release, but it would be very nice if it launched with the cross-platform play ready to go.
Oh, and BlizzCon 2018 is also right around the corner as well – could we hear news about this happening at the convention?
With this happening, the only question that needs to be asked is “What game is next?”. What game is next, indeed.
