In January of 2017, Nintendo did a worldwide event showing off what gamers could expect from the Nintendo Switch. They showed off Zelda, Mario, Arms, and more, but one of the biggest surprises was the confirmation of Xenoblade Chronicles 2. The third game in the franchise that wouldn’t be a “pure sequel” to the original, but be more in the style of it. The game would be the last 1st party release of 2017, and within weeks, it had not only glowing reviews, but over a million in sales. This leads many to believe that Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is a certainty.
And now, the executive director of the game, Tetsuya Takahashi, is adding more fuel to the fire for Xenoblade Chronicles 3 being real, for, in an interview, he noted this:
“From a sales perspective, I have to say Xenoblade Chronicles 2 exceeded my expectations. We really saw more people pick the game up and experience it in the North American and European territories than we thought would do so. It’s still early days for the Torna DLC, but from what we’ve seen in Japan, the sales of the Torna DLC are exceeding our expectations as well.”
This goes to show the fanbase that Xenoblade Chronicles has gotten over the first two games, the second of which, Xenoblade Chronicles X, was one of the most important exclusives on the Wii U. The difference between the original and X was the genre style. The original was fantasy RPG, while X was futuristic sci-fi, and 2 was back to fantasy. So, if Xenoblade Chronicles 3 gets made, what should we expect?
“I’m someone who gets bored of whatever it was I did last. If the [Xenoblade Chronicles] series continues, you just might see it take a third option. It might go down a path it hasn’t gone down before.”
What do you think this “third option” will be? Let us know in the comments below. And be sure to stay tuned for our review of Torna – The Golden Country, it’ll be out soon! If you want to read the review of Xenoblade Chronicles 2, click here!
