Capcom Vancouver, the studio that produced Capcom’s Dead Rising series, has been shut down.
The details of the closure come from several former employees of the company. All of which have confirmed that Capcom has officially shut down the development studio. Due to this sudden closure, it’s been reported that up to 158 people will lose their jobs. While there were several layoffs for the studio earlier this year, it wasn’t clear if Capcom was going to close Capcom Vancouver.

According to Kotaku, Capcom has decided to focus on major titles being worked on in Japan.
“as a result of reviewing titles in development at Capcom Vancouver, Capcom has decided to cancel the development projects at this studio and will concentrate development of major titles in Japan.”
No word on what other titles were being worked on by Capcom Vancouver. However, the last few games that came out of the studio were Dead Rising 4 and Puzzle Fighter (2017), which was discontinued on July 31st, 2018.
Sadly, it would seem that Dead Rising 4 not living up to Capcom’s sales expectations was the nail in the coffin. Oddly enough, there were several rumors that a 5th game in the series was planned. However, seeing how Capcom is already working on several upcoming titles. Such as Devil May Cry 5 and Resident Evil 2 Remake, I’m not so sure on when or if that’s will happen.
I really hate reporting on studio closures and people losing their jobs. It’s never fun doing it and we hope those who were let go are able to find some gainful employment.
