Great news came out of Nintendo Direct with the announcement that the beloved classic Katamari Damacy is getting a remaster, dubbed Katamari Damacy Reroll. Originally releasing in 2004 for the PlayStation 2, Katamari Damacy is a puzzle game that follows a tiny green prince in his quest to rebuild the stars with increasingly bizarre earthly objects. It’s one of the weirdest and most memorable games from the PlayStation 2 era, and will be a welcome addition to the Switch’s library.

From the Nintendo Direct press release:
“Na naaaaah na na na naaah na na naaaaah na na na na na naaaaaaaaah.” Fans of the groundbreaking Katamari Damacy game can hum its theme song at a moment’s notice. But new fans will be joining the chorus when an HD remaster of the classic game comes to Nintendo Switch, complete with HD Rumble, gyro control and multiplayer support with the Joy-Con controllers. Katamari Damacy REROLL launches in Nintendo eShop on Nintendo Switch on Nov. 30, with the physical packaged version coming winter 2018.
This news is somewhat of a bittersweet reminder that such a wonderfully unique franchise has slipped through the cracks over the years; there hasn’t been a proper non-mobile Katamari game in several years now. Nonetheless, Damacy holds up surprisingly well, and some enhanced graphics should make this an experience worth picking up for Switch players. In the meantime, I’ll be crossing my fingers for a PlayStation release.
Katamari Damacy Reroll arrives on the Nintendo Switch digitally on November 30th; a physical edition and a PC release comes December 7.
