Captain Marvel is one of the most highly anticipated Marvel Cinematic Universe movies of the franchise. On the one hand, it’s going to get us the rest of the way narratively to Avengers 4 and on the other, they’ve been promising this movie for a long time now. And when Brie Larson was cast as Carol Danvers, aka the captain herself, people got even more excited.
Now, fans can get even more pumped as we have some initial shots of the film, courtesy of Entertainment Weekly, that show us Larson wearing the icon colors of the character:
There was some fuss about Carol and the costume, as one of the very first shots we saw of Brie Larson in the role was in a green suit, which while having a similar style to the costume, was clearly not what anyone expected. Not to worry, the green suit was not a replacement, but rather a costume that she will be wearing as a member of Starforce, the Kree military elite.
Below, we can see Danvers with the rest of her team, speaking to Ronan the Destroyer:
That’s right, the film will not only take place before Guardians of the Galaxy but also before Iron Man, with a Nick Fury sans the eye patch. In fact, Captain Marvel will be the first superhero Fury meets and it is from here that he decides to build the Avengers initiative. The movie will answer questions about Fury’s past, and why Captain Marvel wasn’t a part of the initial Avengers line up.
We also get a first look at Jude Law playing Mar-Vell, the leader of Starforce and original Captain Marvel who later gives his power to Danvers. He’s going to be yet another fanatical believer in the Kree’s superiority, so that’s going to be interesting to see break down.
Captain Marvel is set to premiere in theaters on March 8, 2019.
