Much to my surprise the Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 demo popped up on Steam (which is for pre-order at $53 I might add) and of course as soon as I saw it I knew I had to install it and play it. That said I quite enjoyed all 20 minutes of it and though it isn’t an indication of the final product, I can safely say that the impression that I came away with from is that MercurySteam definitely put some polish on the PC version. The art direction and graphics are very well done and the controls were very responsive as was the combat mechanics that have you switching out weapons such as a a whip,a sword and a pair of claws.
Though not all was roses and sunshine as I it was clear to see that the game had issues with tearing even with V-Sync enabled, though however minor it was still apparent and I noticed that at parts the textures were still low res, which is noticeable doing the first few seconds of the game. I also wasn’t able to maintain a solid 60 frames-per-second, but to be fair I was running the demo at 2560×1440 with all the settings at high / maximum, though I was fairly confident that my gaming PC was up to the task of running it at the top settings.
The PC that I played this on had the following specs;
- Intel i5 3570 overclocked to 4.3Ghz
- EVGA GTX 780 Overlocked
- 16GB of Corsair Sport DDR3 memory
I’ve record some footage which can be seen below and like I said, if the demo is like this then I can’t wait for the full version. Be sure to play them in HD if you’re PC is up to it.
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 will be released on February 27, 2014 for the Playstation 3, the Xbox 360 and PC.
