During E3 2018, Focus Home Interactive and Deck 13 announced The Surge 2. The follow-up to their sci-fi hack and slash RPG title that played a quite bit like Dark Souls and one that I enjoyed immensely. The only problem is that there wasn’t much to show to the public. With eager eyes hoping to see some footage from the ongoing Gamescom 2018, Deck 13 released a short teaser for the game.
While teaser doesn’t appear to be new, it’s possibly the first time many have seen the footage. Everything seen has been described from several E3 2018 interviews with Focus Home Interactive and Deck 13. Even still, the footage does look pretty good, and easily one-ups the first title. I also noticed a few weapons that were in The Surge. Hopefully, it means that some of our favorite weapons are also in the game. Or they simply could be temporary assets for now.
You can check the teaser below.
There’s a hands-on at Gamescom 2018 for press only, however, the game will also be shown off to the public. As such I’m sure more footage will start showing up on the internet later today. Especially since today officially kicks off the start of the event.
The Surge 2 continues the story from the previous title and improves on the game in many ways. A better targeting system, more gear, upgraded blocking system, and even a new environment called “Jericho” to explore.
The Surge 2 keeps what fans and critics loved about the original – hardcore combat utilizing a unique, dynamic limb targeting system and deep character progression – while also improving the formula. The Surge 2 takes place in a brand new environment: a sprawling, devastated city with larger and more ambitious level design, made possible by Deck13’s upgraded and improved FLEDGE engine. Combat is more brutal and tactical than ever, with more advanced dodging, directional parrying, and unique AI behaviors. In addition, more abilities, weapons, implants, and drones give players a vast arsenal to build their character with, in their fight against the array of diverse new enemies and bosses.
There’s even word that the protagonist from the first game, Warren, will make an appearance. As to what role he’ll play and if he’s friend or foe has yet to be announced. I’m wondering what state he’ll be in, especially after the events from The Surge.
The Surge 2 will be released sometime in 2019 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
