Of the many developers that have pledged their loyalty, or at least a couple games, to the Nintendo Switch, few have gotten as much as gamer requests as Blizzard. Not for games like Heroes of the Storm or World of Warcraft to come over, rather, they want to see Overwatch make its arrival on Switch. In fact, this was one of the most popular rumors in the first year of the Switch’s life that Blizzard would bring it over, and they commented many times on its potential on the system.
Today, it was confirmed that Diablo III – The Eternal Collection would be coming to the Nintendo Switch this fall, and naturally, that opened the floodgates as to whether Overwatch would be next in line.
Naturally, after the announcement, some interviews were done, and Gamespot spoke with Blizzard Senior Producer Pete Stillwell about the potential for Overwatch to come to Switch:
“Anything is within the realm of possibility,” Stillwell said. “Our team was given the task to work on this. If [Overwatch developer] Team 4 picks up that endeavour, that’s on them. As of right now Diablo is our only focus on Switch.”
While that sounds like a non-committal answer, he did say bluntly, “Yes, it is feasible.” in regards to Overwatch working on the Nintendo Switch.
That being said, if you’re hoping that Starcraft II will be in the pipeline as well, I have some bad news:
“StarCraft 2 is next level requirements from how much dexterity you need with a mouse and keyboard, so I think that would have been a very difficult port. It would have [to] change the core gameplay.”
So there you have it, Overwatch could be brought to Switch, but Starcraft II won’t. What do you think of this? Are you ok with this arrangement? And are you getting Diablo III on Switch? Let us know in the comments below!
