Netflix and CBC announced on Wednesday that they have picked up the critically-acclaimed period drama from Northwood Entertainment, Anne with an E for a third season to air in 2019.
The drama, inspired by the Anne of Green Gables series of novels by Lucy Maud Montgomery and created by Moira Walley-Beckett (Breaking Bad), centers the story around Anne – portrayed by Amybeth McNulty – as she fights her way through an antiquated society in pursuit of love, acceptance and where she fits in. The producers of the show state that season 3 of the show will add new characters and storylines to the show, exploring the various themes of identity, prejudice, feminism, bullying, gender parity, diversity and empowerment through Anne’s eyes.
Anne with an E, which debuted on Netflix this past July, and will debut on CBC in late September. The show amassed quite a following, creating an outcry on social media for a third season.
Sally Catto, the General Manager of Programming at CBC had the following to say about the third season of the show:

We have no doubt that Canadians will continue to fall in love with this beautiful and heartwarming series for seasons to come.
Netflix’s VP of Original Content, Cindy Holland, echoed Catto’s sentiments as well:
Through the storytelling of Anne with an E, the classic Canadian tale has transcended borders and found fans across our global membership. We are excited to continue our partnership with CBC and Northwood and bring the series back for a third season.
