‘American Horror Story’ Season 8 Gets Title: Apocalypse

By Sara Roncero-MenendezJuly 21, 2018

Every yer, Ryan Murphy keeps fans anxiously waiting for the reveal of the American Horror Story title. Sometimes he waits right til the day it airs, sometimes he puts out weird clues, and then sometimes he just comes right out and says it. This latest season is in that last category, with Murphy announcing today on the show’s social media pages the next season’s title – American Horror Story: Apocalypse.

The season is going to be a crossover of both season 1, Murder House, and season 3, Coven. Now with this new title, we have a good idea just what it’ll be about. At the end of Murder House, a child is born of the union between a woman and a ghost, which is foretold in the universe to bring about the figure of the Antichrist. The last scene of the show finds said child having brutally murdered a nanny, laughing as he is covered in blood.

Thus, the premise of the show could be the witches of the Coven attempting to stop him from destroying the Earth, or potentially being dragged into his deeds. The cast currently includes Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Kathy Bates, Billie Lourd, Billy Eichner, Leslie Grossman, Adina Porter, Cheyenne Jackson and newcomer Joan Collins. You might notice several important characters, like the majority of the witches, are missing from the cast, but they’ll probably be confirmed soon.

Ryan Murphy tells Entertainment Weekly that this new season is going to be a rollercoaster ride for fans, “It’s a season unlike anything we’ve done because there’s a big hook to it. There’s a huge thing that happens in episode five.” He also said, “You will see so many fan favorites return that you’ll feel like it’s The Love Boat. It’s a very high concept.”

American Horror Story: Apocalypse is set to premiere on September 9, 2018.

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
