Just a few days ago we reported that the upcoming Dragon Ball Super Movie would be focused on the legendary Super Saiyan, Broly. Now we’re happy to report that Funimation will be bringing the movie over to the West.
While Dragon Ball Super: Broly will be released in Japan theaters on Dec 14, 2018. We speculated on how long it would take for the movie to make it to Bluray and DVDs in the west. But now, we’ll be able to head to select North American theaters and watch it in January 2019. At the moment, the dates haven’t been finalized but will be announced at a later date.
Dragon Ball Super: Broly will also show us a new side of Broly, according to Akira Toriyama. Not only will he have a new art style, but he won’t be the same single-minded dolt that we’re all used to. We’ll also see Broly become officially part of the Dragon Ball canon, instead of being reserved to just movies. Perhaps we’ll even get to see a Broly vs Kefla match-up in the future. Hey, a guy can dream.

Of course, January 2019 won’t be your first look at the movie, as Funimation will be showing off a new trailer at SDCC 2018. If you’re heading out that way, be sure to stop by their panel. And if not, they’ll be releasing the trailer to the public as well.
Either way, I hope my boy, Piccolo, gets into the action as well. I mean, he’s a bit more useful than just being pan’s babysitter and uncle.
