It’s no secret fans that Star Wars fans are a nostalgic bunch, and nothing gets the blood racing like news that a beloved character or actor is coming back to the movies. So get ready for some nerd hearts to start a-fluttering, because Billy Dee Williams may be reprising his role as Lando Calrissian for Star Wars Episode IX.
The Hollywood Reporter cites unnamed sources as confirming the rumor, but it began when Williams pull out of a convention appearance due to conflicting schedules. Fans were also putting two and two together and getting excited over the possibility of seeing Lando grace the screen yet again.
It is interesting to know that they are bringing in Williams now, and one has to (perhaps pessimistically) wonder if the only reason that he was added was because Carrie Fischer unfortunately passed away. Either that, or contract negotiations weren’t looking good until the last minute. Still, any of the original cast is welcome at this point, especially one as suave and fun as Billy Dee Williams.
Keri Russell is reportedly also joining the cast, along with the core crew of Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, and Adam Driver. There’s no word yet as to when Kelly Marie Tran will be returning as Rose Tico.
Star Wars Episode IX is set to premiere in theaters on December 20, 2019.
