Another day, another reboot, and this time around we got a peek at The Predator in the brand new brutal red-band trailer. The perfectly intense look at the re-envisioned version of the cult classic gives us plenty of glimpses at the recognizable cast, as well as the titular Predator.
Coming to us from the creative mind of Shane Black (The Nice Guys, Predator) the trailer features Boyd Holbrook (Narcos) as an assassin tasked with leading a group of former soldiers against mankind’s most dangerous and present threat. The alien hunter race was accidentally brought to Earth by Jacob Tremblay’s (Room) character’s discovery of Predator technology, as revealed in the previous trailer released in May.
This trailer focuses less on the how and why of the alien presence and more on the action surrounding the deadly peril the movie contains. A rogue team of soldiers with colliding personalities is established, a distressed scientist lays out exposition, and we get a look at the undeniably badass larger Predator who is referred to as the “ultimate Predator”. This trailer provided fans with a much more direct vision as to what the movie will have in store as opposed to the fairly uneventful first one.
Black has already proved his chops time and time again when it comes to action, science fiction, and generally most things nerds obsess over as far as cinema is concerned. While some fans of the franchise may be rolling their eyes, completely unimpressed with anything that hasn’t yet proven to be immaculate, one could argue that most have been pretty thoroughly gripped by the latest trailer. It seems as though all the elements are present for a success here, and although it doesn’t rule out the opportunity for error in the slightest, the red-band trailer easily drums up excitement for what’s to come.
The cast is full to the brim with easily identifiable names and faces including Keegan Michael-Key, Sterling K. Brown, Olivia Munn, Alfie Allen, Yvonne Strahovski, Trevante Rhodes, Jake Busey, Thomas Jane, Augusto Aguilera, and of course the aforementioned Boyd Holbrook and Jacob Tremblay. There’s a whole lot of talent both in the writers’ room and on either side of the camera at work to make The Predator a hit, so we’ll see where that recipe lands the film in the end.
The Predator hits theaters September 14th of this year, so the countdown is only by the months until we get to see the reboot come to fruition.
