Ever since Sony purchased Gaikai back in 2012 it was speculated that they were going to use the service to stream content to their PlayStation family. Well, today Sony has finally announced their plans for the technology and has announced PlayStation Now which is a service that will stream content to the PS4, PS3, Vita (Handheld and Vita TV) as well as Sony’s Bravia TV lineup all via the wondrous cloud.
Benefits of PlayStation now include;
- Play video games instantly across multiple devices, similar to the way you might stream TV, movies, and music.
- Stream full games to all of your compatible PlayStation devices including PS4, PS3, and PlayStation Vita as well as non-PlayStation devices, beginning with 2014 BRAVIA TV models and expanding to numerous other Internet-connected devices.
- Always play the most updated version of your game. With games hosted in the cloud, you can take your game with you – just log in with your Sony Entertainment Network account on a compatible device and your games and saved progress will be easily available.

Sony demoed the services at their CES both which featured four games; The Last of Us, God of War: Ascension, Beyond: Two Souls, and Puppeteer, which were all running via a Bravia HDTV without any PlayStation hardware being presented per Theverge’s hands-on which can be found here.
Per Sony, the PlayStation Now initial roll-up will start at the end of January 2014 and will be available to everyone by Summer 2014. There’s no word currently if you will need to pay again to stream titles you already own such as streaming PS3 titles to the PS4, though I would hope that Sony has something in place just for this.
