FX has picked up Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement’s proposal for a television series based on their 2014 film What We Do in the Shadows. The series will serve as a reboot of the original film, which was a comedic, mockumentary-style portrayal of three vampires living together. Followed by a documentary crew, the roommates are forced to adapt to a 21st century lifestyle, going out to bars and clubs at night to find prey. Waititi and Clement wrote, directed, and starred in the film.
The trailer for the movie:
What We Do in the Shadows was a surprise hit, and it seems Waititi and Clement are hoping to build on its success with this series. Kayvan Novak, Matt Berry, Natasia Demetriou, and Harvey Guillen are set to star. While it’s unclear whether Waititi and Clement will be featured as characters in the show, the two will still be highly involved in the project with Waititi set to direct and Clement writing. With Waititi fresh off directing Thor: Ragnarok and Clement filming his hourlong Flight of the Conchords special for HBO, the two certainly seem to know how to keep busy.
What We Do in the Shadows is set to air in Spring 2019.
