Yesterday Valve Software had sent out emails to 300 lucky Steam members to be selected to beta test their prototypes of the Steam Machines. Sadly I wasn’t one of them and more than likely neither were you. Well that’s ok as we’ll still get our chance to check out the SteamOS as it will be released on December 13th. However the company did announce that will the SteamOS will be available for download it wouldn’t be easy to install as it’s not ready for prime-time and per Valve “unless you’re an intrepid Linux hacker already, we’re going to recommend that you wait until later in 2014 to try it out.”
I don’t about you but thankfully being an IT professional and having to plan with different distro’s of Linux on almost a daily basis, I’m definitely going to be attempting an install of the SteamOS onto my other gaming PC. So some December 13th and assuming I get it installed I’ll be posting my thoughts on the upcoming Linux based gaming OS.
And don’t forget that come January 6th, 2014, Valve will unveil it’s first commercial Steam Machine at Consumer Electronics Show 2014.
