PlayerUnknown’s Battleground (also known as PUBG) is launching on on mobile phones in many regions. PUBG mobile, made in a cooperation effort between PUBG Corp and mobile gaming company Tencent, has been released worldwide after very positive feedback from a Canadian Beta Test back on March 15, 2018. PUBG Mobile has also been available for a bit longer in China.
“We chose to work with Tencent and their development studios because of their long running history high Quality mobile titles”. ~ Chang Han Kim, PUBG Corp
The game is a free to play version of the original Steam game, but with a lower graphical quality to ensure smooth gameplay for all players. The servers are limited at the moment, with only Europe, North America and Asia available. But the game is more stable than it’s PC counterpart and available on all current iOS and Android devices.
PUBG is a Battle Royale action game, where a 100 players land on an island and scavenge for weapons and kill each other till only one survives. PUBG does an amazing job at balancing tactical shooting elements, with a great tense environment. This allows for intense open ended shootouts. PUBG has been a smash hit since it went Early Release a few years ago on PC/Steam, with over 6 million players online at once that broke the Steam record for most concurrent players on the platform at once. PUBG has also been doing pretty well on Xbox One, with that version of the game recently hitting over 3 million players online.
At time of writing, there is one small issue with the game that has been brought to light: When playing early games, PUBG Mobile will fill over half the game with AI controlled Bots that are easy targets to kill before filtering down to real players mostly in the late game. Once your character gains a higher ranking, the less bots are used in the game and the more real players you have to face. Players have accused PUBG Corp and Tencent games of giving players a false sense of achievement in the mobile version while none of these features exist in the PC version.
Having PUGB on mobile phones will bring more eyes on the game. This focus on moving could possibly be due to the fact the another Battle Royale title is also soon coming to mobile phones in the Battle Royale genre (Fortnite) also having a mobile version. Hopefully this at the end of the day this brings both games to a more main stream crowd, and both games are huge successes.
PlayerUnknown Battleground Mobile is available for iOS and Android.
