At the end of the Sonic the Hedgehog SXSW panel, the team dropped a hell of a bombshell. While everyone was expecting a new Sonic Racing game, as it was rumored for some time, it was never mentioned. That is not until the very end, just as the panel was ending, one last tease was revealed.
A short video was shown, with a car revving its engine while a logo slowly made its way to the front. Suddenly, a part of the logo was made clear, while the rest remained darkened. Was this the Sonic Racing reveal everyone was waiting on? It definitely looks like it, but sadly we didn’t get to see the full logo. The bottom you can definitely make out as Racing. The top, however, is too obscured to see.
What we do know is that this isn’t a sequel to any game. Meaning that we won’t be seeing a follow-up to Sonic Racing or Sonic Racing: Transformed. This will be a new game, built from the ground up. As for when we’ll hear or see more about the game, that’s anyone’s guess. We do have GDC 2018 taking place next week, allow with PAX East 2018 coming up in early April 2018. I doubt we’d find out more at GDC 2018, so my money is on PAX East 2018. At least, one can only hope.
Update: There’s news about more Sonic news coming during March 22, 2018. Which takes place during GDC 2018. And there just happens to be a panel at GDC 2018, with none other than Hirokazu Yasuhara, and Naoto Ohshima. We could just get more news then.

They will reflect on the original game’s art direction and development process, as well as the methods used to create a character deliberately designed to become Sega’s mascot.
Damn, a new Sonic Racing game? I can’t wait!
