There are a ton of new animes to be watching this season and I myself struggle to get a taste of every single one. To help those of you who may be wondering which animes are worth watching, here is a list of my recommendations to watch this season:
Animes I’m Up-to-date With-
Laid-Back Camp:
Nadeshiko, a high school student who had moved from Shizuoka to Yamanashi, decides to see the famous, 1000 yen-bill-featured Mount Fuji. Even though she manages to bike all the way to Motosu, she’s forced to turn back because of worsening weather. Unable to set her eyes on her goal, she faints partway to her destination. When she wakes up, it’s night, in a place she’s never been before, with no way of knowing how to get home. Nadeshiko is saved when she encounters Rin, a girl who is out camping by herself. This outdoorsy girls story begins with this first encounter between Nadeshiko and Rin. (Source: Crunchyroll)
I recommend giving this anime a watch especially if you enjoy the slice of life genre. This anime offers a very cozy but fun experience. It has also successfully made me want to go camping. I’m not sure If I will go camping… but I’ve definitely thought about it. The characters are enjoyable and compliment each other well; especially the two main characters Nadeshiko and Rin.
Death March to the Parallel World Rhapsody:
“Satou,” aka Ichiro Suzuki is a programmer in the middle of a death march. He was supposed to be taking a nap but somehow wakes up in another world… What lies before him is what looks like the menu screen of the game he was working before his nap. He’s at a complete beginner stage at level 1. However, he had three “Meteor Showers” which could level a whole map. Suddenly, a whole group of lizardmen appears in front of him. In order to survive, Satou uses Meteor Shower, his level jumped to 310 and he became extremely wealthy. Whether it be dream or reality, Satou’s journey was now beginning. (Source: Crunchyroll)
So there is nothing special about this Isekai. It is extremely similar to last years In Another World With my Smartphone. The difference instead is that the main character and supporting characters don’t feel as hollow as the ones from Smartphone. Other than that, there isn’t really anything special. The MC is overpowered and is a chick magnet, so nothing special there. It may be generic as hell, but it is still enjoyable. If you’re just needing to watch something to fill the void in your heart, then Death March is a good watch. If you’re expecting something new, then you may need to look somewhere else.
The Ryuo’s Work is Never Done:
The protagonist opens his door to find himself face-to-face with a sadist… “I’ve come to be made your pupil, like you promised!” Kuzuryu Yaichi holds one of the highest titles in the shogi world, “Ryuo”, at the age of 16. The girl who has shown up at his front door is Hinatsuru Ai, a nine-year-old in the third grade. “Huh? Pupil? What?” “Don’t you remember?” Though he doesn’t remember her, the duo’s life together thus begins. Eventually, Ai’s honest enthusiasm helps Yaichi rediscover the passion he had begun to lose. Only watch this anime if you wanna get arrested. The lolice will be tracing you no matter what and will make sure you get punished for your crimes for being a lolicon… with that aside, I recommend this anime for anyone who wants to experience an anime about a shogi player teaching a ton of elementary school girls to play. I have no clue what is going on during the shogi matches, but what I do know is that the lolis are extremely adorable and are plentiful.
Animes I plan to watch-
Citrus:
Yuzu, a high school gyaru who hasn’t experienced her first love yet, transfers to an all-girls school after her mother remarries. She’s beyond upset that she can’t land a boyfriend at her new school. Then, on her first day, she meets the beautiful black-haired student council president Mei in the worst way possible. What’s more, she later finds out that Mei is her new step-sister, and they’ll be living under the same roof! And so the love affair between two polar opposite high school girls who find themselves drawn to one another begins! (Source: Crunchyroll)
I’m going to be watching this for research purposes and the plot…
A place further than the universe:
Scenery that we have never seen. Sounds that we have never heard. Scent that we have never smelled. Food that we have never tasted. And the surge of emotion that we have never experienced. This is the expedition of recollecting the pieces torn apart and sensation left alone. When we reach that place, what will we think? Howling, 40-degree angle. Raging, 50-degree angle. Shouting, 60-degree angle. A wilderness beyond the heavy sea. The furthest south, far from civilization. At the top of the Earth. We will find lights through the girls’ eyes to live tomorrow. I believe this anime is going to be one that is overlooked by many. I’m not sure what to expect but I know it’s going to be an excellent watch.
DARLING in the FRANXX:
The distant future: Humanity established the mobile fort city, Plantation, upon the ruined wasteland. Within the city were pilot quarters, Mistilteinn, otherwise known as the “Birdcage.” That is where the children live… Their only mission in life was the fight. Their enemies are the mysterious giant organisms known as Kyoryu. The children operate robots known as FRANXX in order to face these still unseen enemies. Among them was a boy who was once called a child prodigy: Code number 016, Hiro. One day, a mysterious girl called Zero Two appears in front of Hiro. “I’ve found you, my Darling.” (Source: Crunchyroll)
So I should be watching this already, but I have a tendency to wait until the entire season is released then binge watch all 12 or 13 episodes in one sitting. I’ve only heard good things about this one and it seems that it could have the best girl of the year in it.
Season 2 of Overlord:
When a popular MMORPG is scheduled to be shut down permanently, veteran player Momonga refuses to log out. As NPCs begin to develop personalities and minds of their own he decides to put his skills to use as the game’s new overlord. (Source: Crunchyroll)
I also should be watching this already, but I’m going to be binge-watching the entire season instead of painfully waiting an entire week before each episode. I was a huge fan of the first season and am excited to see what the second season has in store. I recommend this anime to anyone who loves Isekai or fantasy animes.
