Final Fantasy XV Is Doing Alright On The PC After All

Final Fantasy 15 Windows Edition

Despite being released on the PC, 1.2 years after the console versions had been released, Final Fantasy XV is selling well on the PC. According to Steamspy, a service that tracks sales made on Valve’s digital distribution platform, Final Fantasy XV has sold over 200,000 copies in three days. That’s pretty good, considering that many gamers feel that Final Fantasy XV was one of the weaker games in the series. It was also full priced, which makes the feat even more incredible.

Keep in mind that Steamspy is typically a few days behind, so it could easily be than 200,000 copies sold. Not counting the copies that were also sold on EA’s Origin and Microsoft’s Windows Store. Putting it into perspective, this means Final Fantasy XV has sold more copies in three days than Final Fantasy XII: Zodiac Edition has sold in a month (90,000+). Still, it has a long way to go to catch up the number one Final Fantasy game on Steam. That being Final Fantasy VII (1,00,000+ copies) which released on PC back in July 2013.

Easily one of the fastest selling JRPGs on Steam, for sure. I’m curious to see if it can catch up to the leading JRPG series on Steam. That being the Dark Souls series. Yes, it is a JRPG. People just need to be reminded of that. For some more perspective, check out these numbers.

  • Dark Souls: Prepare to Die – 2.8 million copies sold August 2012
  • Dark Souls II – 1 million copies sold April 2014
  • Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin – 1.4 million copies sold April 2015
  • Dark Souls III – 2.7 million copies sold since April 2016

Hopefully, Final Fantasy XV can surpass 500,00 copies by years end. Then maybe Square Enix will consider releasing the next Final Fantasy on to the PC at the same time as the next console version. That’s if they make another Final Fantasy. And no, we’re not talking about Final Fantasy 7 Remake (which is a timed exclusive on PS4). That is a remake after all.
