Fans of the cancelled NBC shows Constantine have been waiting for the show’s return in animated form for a while. But that wait is almost over. CBR reports that Warner Brothers Television has announced that the show will premiere on March 24. Constantine, based on the DC comics, focuses on a detective who investigates cases relating to the occult. The original series ran for one season from 2014 to 2015 on NBC. While NBC cancelled it due to poor ratings, the show managed to garner a strong fan following. This likely contributed to its return. The animated version will debut on the CW Seed streaming service.
Although the new series will be animated, it will serve as a direct continuation of the live action original. Matt Ryan reprises his role as John Constantine, with J.M. DeMatteis coming on board as writer. In addition to playing Constantine in the NBC series, Ryan returned to the role on Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow.
When the show debuts on March 24, it will also have a panel at WonderCon. Ryan, DeMatteis and Warner Brothers Animation executive Peter Girardi will appear to talk about the new series. The WonderCon comic convention will begin on March 23 in Anaheim, California. The panel will also include the world premiere screening of the show.
