Celeste Ng’s bestseller Little Fires Everywhere is a beautifully composed story about motherhood and the burden of long-buried secrets. So it’s no wonder that a premise with so much drama would get two actresses known for their dramatic skill.
Kerry Washington, best known for role on Scandal, Reese Witherspoon, currently on the HBO drama Big Little Lies, have signed on to adaptation of the novel. The pair will also executive produce the show, along with Liz Tigelaar, the showrunner. The show is a production of Hello Sunshine, Washington’s Simpson Street and ABC Signature Studios. Currently, it is being bid on by various channels.
The novel follows two families: the more typical Richardsons and the mother-daughter pair Warrens. When the Richardsons look to adopt a Chinese-American baby, the two families butt heads, leading to some dark secrets being unearthed. This is Celeste Ng’s second novel, a New York Times bestseller and was named a best book of 2017 by NPR, Buzzfeed, Amazon, The Washington Post, and more.
There’s no information on the rest of the cast, nor when we can expect to see the show out there on the airways.
