Why god why? What did we do to deserve this? Sonic The Hedgehog is heading to theaters on November 15th, 2019.

Now this isn’t the first time that the SEGA mascot has been seen in a movie format. Way back in 1996 a two-episode Japanese OVA (Original Video Animation) was released in the West as Sonic The Hedgehog: The Movie. To be honest, it’s not that bad. Considering at the time we had the really eye killing terrible Sonic The Hedgehog cartoon going on, this movie version was a lot more serious and entertaining. My memory might be a bit off, but I think this movie was a lead-in for the absolutely amazing Sonic SatAM cartoon series that we all wish would return in some form.
Back on topic, it seems that Paramount Pictures and SEGA of America has combined their creative talents to produce a brand new Sonic The Hedgehog movie, slated for release on November 15th, 2019. Not much more is known about the film at this time other than that Tim Miller and Jeff Fowler have been brought on board to direct the feature. Fowler’s best known previous work is Oscar-nominated short “Gopher Broke.”; while Tim Miller is best known for his work on a little superhero film you might have heard of called Deadpool.
Outside of these two directors, we know that the film will be a mixture of live action and CGI, much like films like The Smurfs and the upcoming Detective Pikachu have done.
“I am very honored that our companies, SEGA and MARZA, have this incredible opportunity to partner with Paramount Pictures for this production, which will bring Sonic to the big screen for the first time. Since he was first introduced to the world 26 years ago, Sonic has continued to grow in popularity as part of our core strategy to focus on video games. In addition to video games, this provides SEGA with a fantastic opportunity to share Sonic with everyone and we can’t wait to reveal more to eager audiences in the future,” said SEGA Holdings Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Haruki Satomi.
Paramount Pictures will work closely with SEGA of America to bring Sonic to the big screen, said Jim Gianopulos, Chairman and CEO, Paramount Pictures.
“We are incredibly excited to work with SEGA to bring this iconic property and character to audiences around the world,” said Gianopulos. “We look forward to our partnership on this great venture.”
To say that the announcement of the Sonic The Hedgehog movie has been received positively would be a huge understatement. Twitter is full of dread for the movie, as you can see below.
