Everyone remembers ReBoot, the pioneer in completely computer generated TV series which led to the legendary Transformers: Beast Wars TV series and spawned god only knows how many other TV shows that were created completely via CGI? Well after decades of the very dedicated fanbase writing to Mainframe Entertainment to create a sequel to the TV show, we finally got it! Releasing on Netflix on March 30, 2018; we are getting ReBoot: The Guardian Code. Let’s take a look at the recently released trailer…
Ummm… What the fuck was that? Where is Enzo, Dot, Phong, and Bob? Where is mainframe? Where are the game cubes? Where is anything that even looks anything remotely like the show we watched in the 90s? Ok, sure, we got to see something that resembles Megabyte in the trailer but he’s being controlled by someone outside in the real world. Actually, while I’m mentioning the live action stuff… WHAT THE FUCK!? We don’t need to see this live action out in the real world shit with these kids. ReBoot was about the Guardians that lived in “The Net” and helped “The User” while also keeping the people of The Net alive and free while fighting Megabyte. I know the story doesn’t make much sense back then due to how new the internet was back then, but it contained some of the best storytelling and character building seen at the time.
ReBoot: The Guardian Code stars Ty Wood, Sydney Scotia, Ajay Parikh-Friese and Gabriel Darku as a group of teenagers from Alan Turing High School who are recruited by the construct called V.E.R.A. to teleport themselves into the world of Mainframe to battle some unknown hooded guy from doing something that seems very evil. In turn, they are turned into Guardians and fight in Mainframe against this hooded user and his henchman, a resurrected Megabyte, in a battle for control of the internet… I think. The trailer isn’t very clear on what exactly is going on, but since this is something from Netflix, they only care about getting you hooked to the action and excitement; not the story.
Frankly, I’m already worried that this is going to not be anywhere near as good as the original series as it seems to focus more on a live action group of people rather than the characters inside Mainframe itself. I’m also sure that the voice cast from the original might not be returning for this series at all, so it makes all those cameo appearances promised by Mainframe Entertainment and Netflix a moot point… Or to put it more direct…
Reboot: The Guardian Code premiers on Netflix (except Canada) on March 30 for a 26 episode run. For those who want to know, the series is being produced by Mainframe Entertainment, the company behind the original ReBoot series. According to the information out there, this series is an official yet original follow up to the series set 17 years after the original series cliffhanger.
