Mixer, formerly known as Beam, is Microsoft’s own streaming platform. It’s mission is to compete against the likes of Twitch and YouTube and so far, it’s not doing a bad job. Sure, it’s missing a few features that aspring streamers and viewers want, but they’re open to suggestions. And if that suggestion is good enough, they’ll implement. That said, they’ve announced that you’ll soon be able to tip your favorite streamers directly via Mixer.
Now while you can already do this, you have to use a 3rd party service such as Streamlabs or Streamjar. And those will still be viable, however, you’ll also have the option of donating or tipping, directly on Mixer.
Also coming soon is the ability to tip your favorite content creator directly through Mixer. While streamers can continue using external tipping services, we’re adding the option for viewers to tip directly on the platform, without having to leave Mixer.
But that’s not all, as they also announced a new feature for their featured parnters. Similar to what Twitch is doing, Mixer will have their own purchasing program. Being dubbed “Mixer Direct”, viewers will be able to purchase the very same game/s that their favorite streamers are playing. In turn, those partners will earn a percentage of the purchases. Initially, Mixer Direct will include over 5,000 games from the Xbox and Windows 10 catalog. With plans to bring more games to the Mixer Direct.
For our Mixer Partners, we are investing in new ways for them to connect with their viewers and build successful communities on Mixer. As part of this, we’re excited to share that the Mixer Direct Purchase program is now in testing and will be launching broadly soon! With Mixer Direct Purchase, viewers can purchase digital games and game DLC directly through the Mixer streaming platform. When you’re watching a Mixer Partner playing a game or DLC that you want to own, you can purchase directly from the stream you’re watching. Mixer partners will earn a percentage from all purchases made through their stream, in turn helping them to continue to bring great content to their Mixer community.
Sadly, I would have like to have seen this offered to more than just their partners. While I respect their partner program, those requirements a bit high and would like to see Mixer implement some sort of affliate program. Again, similar to what Twitch is doing.
