It is time once again to gather around and overthink who is going to win a small, golden statue for reasons that will be mostly political rather than based on talent. That’s right, it’s the Oscars!
This year does have a few surprises. While The Shape of Water does still have the most nominations, del Toro will be going head-to-head with another visionary horror talent, Jordan Peele. Phantom Thread has a number of nominations, having not gotten through for other awards. Logan, the excellent X-Men film, got a nomination for best adapted screenplay, of all things. And, weirdly enough, Blade Runner 2049 is getting in for a lot of the technical awards. Did your favorites get the Oscar nod of approval? Check out our list below:
