But when is the question we’re asking
We’re barely into the new year and the gaming news headlines are already abuzz. Hideaki Itsuno, the creator of Devil May Cry and Dragon Dogma, is the first to get our 2018 hopes up. In a recent tweet, he goes on to apologize for the lack of any news or games from him during 2017. However, he does want us to look forward to something in the near future.
Happy new year!
I am sorry that I can not present a new project last year. The development of the project is now under climax. I am making a great game so please expect it.— Hideaki Itsuno (@tomqe) December 31, 2017
This recent posting makes me wonder about two things. The first being are we looking forward to some sort of announcement? If so, when can we expect this and what game is going to be? Ok, so that was three questions. We already received an updated Dragon Dogma for the PS4 and Xbox One and PC. This new game is also under “climax” as he puts it. Meaning something exciting is happening. And what could be more exciting than announcing a new title to the world? But what could this about?
Could this be about Devil May Cry 5? It just might be.
This would back up a lot of the speculation for DMC 5 that was leaked during November 2017. However, we were supposed to have heard about DMC 5 officially the time that the 2017 PlayStation Experience and Capcom Cup rolled by. Sadly, this didn’ happen, which led to more head scratching. However, this also does sort of confirm two things that were in those leaks.
- The game is slated to release some time in the fiscal calendar year of 2019. That means sometime between April 2018 and March 2019. The original plan was to release it in November 2018 but the date MIGHT have been pushed back to early 2019.
- Originally DMCV was intended to be announced at PSX but after receiving feedback on their E3 press conference, Sony decided to scale back on PSX and instead scale up E3 2018. DMCV was an unfortunate casualty of this choice and thus it’s unlikely that DMCV gets officially revealed in 2017.
With E3 2018 (June 12-14 2018) the first major gaming event of 2018, we could definitely hear or even see Devil May Cry 5 then. There’s just too much info being passed around. Many of it that have been confirmed/corroborated by multiple people.
Either way, it looks like we’re definitely going to hear something from Hideaki Itsuno this year. The question is just when and what it will be about. Fingers crossed that it is Devil May Cry 5. Or even a new Dragon Dogma title. Truth be told, we could do for another DD game and with the Unreal Engine 4 – could you just imagine that? Either way, I hope this isn’t being overblown and turns out being the Devil May Cry title that is in development for the mobile market.
