Sure we all know how DLC works and for the most part we either love it or hate it and that’s how it goes. However have you ever stopped to think about the current model and wondered that maybe it’s time for it to change up?Well that’s that I did and I’ve thought about it a lot, more so now than before as more and more games are being released with DLC season passes which run you anywhere from $19.99 or more and the more DLC that releases and the more you want it tends to get rather expensive.
Now have you ever wondered that instead of offering a DLC season pass that perhaps a subscription based model? Now hear me out, it may be worth while however there’s a catch…. it won’t work with every game. I’m thinking more along the lines for games that are always in flux like such as racing games, sport games or even fighters where a subscription based model would net you everything for the duration of that games life but it would also work for just about any type of game. So instead of buying DLC season passes on after another you would pay a slightly higher price but at one time and that’s it. That way you’d be locked in for all the content that’s every released for that game. All the track packs or cars that aren’t included in the season passes such as limited editions or preorder specials such as the Forza 4 TopGear Pack or the Forza Motorsport 4 VIP membership. Neither on were included in the season pass and even though at one point there were exceptions on how they were to be accessed they eventually made it onto Xbox Live where they had to be purchased even if you already had a Forza 4 season pass. Don’t even get me started on all the content that wasn’t included in the Borderlands 2 season pass; Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate’s Booty, Mr. Torgue’s Campaign of Carnage, Sir Hammerlock’s Big Game Hunt, Ultimate Vault Hunter Upgrade Pack and Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep
How awesome would it be knowing that instead of shelling out over $100 worth of DLC and / or season passes with the slight chance you may miss out on content that you ultimately get all of it even though it may be at a slightly higher price point? At least to me it’s the logical progression of DLC season passes cause let’s honest here, DLC season passes are here to stay and it would make sense that the model evolves.
What do you think? Are you ok with the current DLC season pass model or do you feel that perhaps a change is needed as well?
