Bandai Namco recently sent out some press releases pertaining the two games in their highest selling franchise: DRAGON BALL. The first is a story update for the upcoming DRAGON BALL FighterZ; the second, is an update for the previously released DRAGON BALL XENOVERSE 2. You can see announcement trailers for both updates below with outlines of their contents.
The first video highlights the main ideas behind the story mode of DRAGON BALL FighterZ, which sees YOU being linked somehow to some of the main characters in the game like Goku, Freiza and the newest character to be added to the series: Android 21. You can view the whole thing in the trailer below.
According to the press release, this is the idea behind everything:
A new threat approaches when a troop of clones appear. And suddenly, warriors start to fall unconscious and many incidents happen… As lately revealed, players will be able to be linked to Super Warriors to find the hidden truth of the 3 Arcs. This Link System allows players to embody different characters, share their minds and even discuss with them while they live in the same body. By exploring the DRAGON BALL FighterZ map, players will have to make choices and this will become strategical. They can decide, for example, to save an ally or find powerful skills to strengthen their relationship with the Super Warriors. Android 21 and Android 16 have the key of the story, what do they really want?
Now while the trailer shows that you can link with Goku & Freiza specifically, there could be more to it than that. You might have to link with other heroes and villains throughout the story, which Bandai Namco have ensured us is brand new and not just the usual retread of the long standing DRAGON BALL Z story line that we’ve had to put up with in every other DRAGON BALL video game since the beginning of DRAGON BALL Z.
The second trailer, which you can see below, is the Extra Packs for DRAGON BALL XENOVERSE 2:
The new game mode Hero Colosseum will be available this year for free for all the DRAGON BALL XENOVERSE 2 versions. This new game within the game will have its own story mode where players will experience a tactical figurine battle gameplay. New content will also be available with the paid Extra Pack 1 and Extra Pack 2. Both of them will offer new characters and gameplay features:
- Extra Pack 1 available in autumn 2017 will include 4 new characters such as Tapion and Android 13.
- Extra Pack 2 will contain an original new character, a new scenario and a new way to interact with Dragon Ball On top of that, players may also discover an all new form Goku in the Extra Pack 2. More details will be revealed later, stay tuned!
Those of you who know their Dragon Ball movies will remember Tapion as Trunk’s idol who gave him the sword that Future Trunks is well known for using in movie 13: Wrath of the Dragon, and Android 13 is the redneck android from the movie of the same name. As for the new character, we could only guess that this will be Android 21, mixing her into the DRAGON BALL XENOVERSE canon. The extra form for Goku will probably be the newest form he achieved in Dragon Ball Super: Ultra Instinct… But those are just guesses at the moment.
Hero Colosseum on the other hand looks like a lot of fun with the collectible element of the different Amiibo style statues and then having to place them on the board for different effects and finally battling it all out in the game’s usual fighting mode. This could be the boost in the arm that DRAGON BALL XENOVERSE 2 needs since it’s main modes weren’t all that great to begin with.
Finally, the last important announcement of today is the collaboration between DRAGON BALL XENOVERSE 2 and DRAGON BALL FighterZ! Special items will be given for those who own both DRAGON BALL XENOVERSE 2 and DRAGON BALL FighterZ.
