We here at the Outerhaven want you to know us not only for our passions surrounding gaming, tech, television, movies, anime, manga, etc. Every week we’re going to deliver to you a list of videos we have been checking out while cyberloafing the internet. It gives you a chance to see another side to us, one that isn’t focused on covering the latest news or reviews. While this list will be largely safe for work, we must warn against things that may incite any phobias that you may have. Enjoy!
Sara’s Pick:
It is a fact of life that there are things we will remember, and things we’ll forget. Any fans of film or television will be familiar with lost movies or episodes, and just how tragic these losses can be. Kyle Kallgren, host of Brows Held High, explores this topic in his video essay on The Forbidden Room, a film that takes the titles and descriptions of lost films and creates little vignettes, as if trying to bring them back from the forgotten depths.
Josh’s Pick:
Being a Mega Man fan, this was a no brainer. Not only do we get to see what 2 boss fights from Mega Man 9 and 10 would look like if they were done in Mega Man 8 style, but UltimateMaverickX went one step further and redid the fights a second time, each with new, tougher, mechanics! The Mega Man fan in me geeked out pretty hard and if you love Mega Man, then you should, too!
Will’s Pick:
In preparation of Overlord season 2, I’ve been listening to the opening of season 1 by OxT. Combination of edginess with electric guitar and vocals, it’s captures the theme of the series well. Where’s my soul? Where’s my heart? To season 2!
Liz’s Pick:
An entertaining compilation of dumb decisions in MMA. Clips include Rousey, Holm, Silva, McGregor, just to name a few. I enjoy watching a wide variety of fighting videos on my free time.
Jon’s Pick:
The Bullet Club is currently the most famous faction of professional wrestlers outside of the WWE. In episode 73 of Being The Elite, they invaded Monday night Raw. The Bullet Club demands the freedom of their friends the clutches of WWE. Cody wants his last name back! The unfortunate fallout of this video was that WWE issued The Young Bucks, members of the Bullet Club, a cease and desist over the usage of the phrase, “Too Sweet.” Luckily, The Young Bucks are pretty good at rolling with the punches… https://twitter.
Clinton’s Pick:
With New York Comic Con coming this week, for new and seasoned con-goers need a little bit of a brush-up. Fortunately, our good friend Gigguk has a guide that applies to most any convention that you may later regret…I mean…largely enjoy. :)
Keith’s Pick:
There’s been a lot of back and forth on if gaming journalists can actually play the games they cover. Of course, the most recent is the Cuphead failure. Well, I’m stepping it up my fellow gaming journalists and just took down this boss, with no damage.
There, we can play games after all ;)
Karl’s Pick:
I love games collecting, the idea of being able to track down your childhood in the most random of places. The Game Chasers is the ongoing adventures of Billy & Jay, two friends who go looking through flea markets, peoples houses and thrift shops looking for the rarest of the rare at rock bottom prices.
Veronica’s Pick:
A very informative video essay on the evolution of animated films, and how the switch to CGI was met with a change in storytelling. Fascinating stuff!
Yhani’s Pick:
Liza Koshy is one of my favorite YouTubers and her weekly videos are always hilarious! This week she does another Vogue interview parody featuring Helga. The video is just so silly and filled with so many jokes and puns, there is no way you can keep a straight face watching this!
That’s all for week’s roundup. Tune back in next week to see what we are sharing next!
