We here at the Outerhaven want you to know us not only for our passions surrounding gaming, tech, television, movies, anime, manga, etc. Every week we’re going to deliver to you a list of videos we have been checking out while cyberloafing the internet. It gives you a chance to see another side to us, one that isn’t focused on covering the latest news or reviews.
While this list will be largely safe for work, we must warn against things that may incite any phobias that you may have. Enjoy!
Todd’s Pick:
Death Battle is about to do a matchup between Smokey The Bear and McGruff the Crime Dog. This preview proves just how worthy a combatant McGruff is in some ways. He’s been around a long time…
Josh’s Pick:
Music criticism, more than any other kind of art criticism, is subjective. Everybody like different genres and styles so critics rarely agree. Still, I love watching Todd in the Shadows rip artists and their latest single a new one and boy, did I want to see him tackle this monstrosity. Todd’s history reviewing Taylor Swift songs is hilarious but this is probably the funniest one to date. Bonus points for being able to contextual the petty bullshit that is the modern pop music landscape.
Clinton’s Pick:
From time to time, I like to go back and listen to hip-hop tracks from around the time I was in high school (2001 – 2005,) and I always seem to come across a classic, joint that seems to resonate with me. This song, Still Lives Through, exemplifies this.
Phonte Coleman of Foreign Exchange and Thomas “Rapper Big Pooh” Jones III lay some classic victory lap bars over a melodic beat by legendary producer Patrick “9th Wonder” Douthit as the group known as Little Brother on their 2005 sophomore album, The Minstrel Show. One of the key lines that definitely sit well with me goes: “Just a little bit of time, is all that we granted on this planet/For us to get our little bit of shines,” where Phonte is basically telling you to make the most of your opportunities. I listen to this song on my way to work every day, and it never fails to inspire me.
Will’s Pick:
The First Of the North Star and Japanese Sumo Bots. Need I say more? Props to the engineer.
Yhani’s Pick:
I don’t think that anyone would question the difference in power between the new iPhone 8 and the PlayStation 4. Smartphones and consoles, while able to play some of the same games, are easily placed into different categories. Yet, when Austin Evans compares the advanced technology in the newest Apple device, it’s hard to ignore all of the impressive specs.
Liz’s Pick:
THIS IS MIND BLOWING. No, seriously. Everything is a lie! When Joe Rogan isn’t baked and laughing at fake martial artists, he has very informative guests on the show. His pursuit of knowledge is unquenchable.
Keith’s Pick:
There’s nothing than some chill video game music to get you through a busy day. Take it from me as I consume this stuff in on daily basis. That said, there’s nothing more chill than DJ Cutman’s live “Lofi Hiphop” station on YouTube. Some Chill beats, mellow tunes and suddenly your day isn’t so bad after all.
That’s all for week’s roundup. Tune back in next week to see what we are sharing next!
