Yuri anime are few and far between and while some shows have shown yuri tendencies, none of them really made it blatantly obvious right out of the gate. Netsuzou TRap -NTR- changes all of that as the show makes ZERO effort to hide the fact that one of the characters doesn’t mind a little girl-on-girl action, but how good was the show?
First Episode Impressions
Netsuzou TRap -NTR- is going to be a love it or hate it show. First of all, the episodes only clock in at just over the nine minute mark. This means that even if the show is sub-par, you can take it in small doses and with the way the show has been presented so far, small doses is probably the best course of action here.
The show centers around two girls, Hotaru and Yuma, as well as their respective boyfriends Fujiwara and Takeda. While the two of them are in normal heterosexual relationships, Hotaru is constantly pressing herself onto Yuma. As one example, Hotaru asks Yuma how her date went and Yuma said that they kissed for the first time. Hotaru asks if Takeda used his tongue, but Yuma said it was a normal kiss. This prompted Hotaru to flat out just french kiss Yuma right there on the balcony. Hotaru always comes up with excuses like “I’m just joking” or “it’s for practice with Takeda.”
While the yuri in the show is abundant, it doesn’t seem like it’s forced for the sake of having yuri. I typically do these reactions based on just the first episode, but I did watch episode two and in there, it actually gives you a solid explanation of why Hotaru is doing the things she is with Yuma. I won’t spoil it, but it’s not just random acts of yuri… there is an actual motivating factor behind it.
OP & ED Impressions
Despite the fact that the episodes are only 9 minutes, there is a full 1:30 opening to the show, as well as a 30 second ending meaning you get about 6 minutes of actual substance.
“Blue Bud Blue” by Haruka Toujou serves as the opening theme for the show. The song has a nice upbeat alternative rock feeling to it. The vocals by Toujou-san compliment the melody perfectly. It honestly sounds more like a shounen battle anime opening more than a slice-of-life opening. It really makes it stand out and helps draw you in. This is a song I may actually end up purchasing when it comes out as it’s pretty catchy.
“Virginal lily” by Akira Ouse serves as the ending and it’s only about 30 seconds long. It’s a shame because the piano opening is fast and engaging and helps get you into the song. The vocals hit and you’re really getting invested and then it’s over. It was definitely a tease and I would love to hear more of it as the ending doesn’t sound bad by any means whatsoever!
Worth Watching?
MAYBE – I’m giving Netsuzou TRap -NTR- a maybe because shows featuring homosexuality are typically hit or miss with anime fans. I was, personally, up in the air after the first episode, but after the second episode, I got to experience a bit of deeper storytelling and it piqued my interest. Plus, as aforementioned, at nine minutes a piece, the episodes are easy to digest so even if ends up being a terrible show, there’s not much time investment with it. I’d say check it out and make your own decision to see if this show is your cup of tea or not, but for me, I’ll stick with it.
