Sales figures are always interesting things to look at, as you almost never know what’ll show up until the figures themselves arrive. Case in point, we noted multiple times late last year that the Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake by Square Enix had made a huge splash in Japan and beyond, with Square Enix noting that the game had sold over 2 million units in no time flat. However, Famitsu decided to take things one step further and note how well the game had done physically in Japan, and it was very impressive.
Without the digital sales included (as Famitsu never counts those,) the game sold over 1.6 million in just Japan alone between the Nintendo Switch and the PS5. A key thing to note, though, is that the Nintendo Switch sold 930K of that amount, with the PS5 doing less than 230K total.
Considering that the 2 million sales figure was done at the beginning of December, it’s fair to think the number is much higher now, and Square Enix will be all but drooling over the prospect of what the remakes of DQ1&2 will do when they’re done this year.
