It’s fair to say that many people haven’t fully recovered from the reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2 yesterday. We broke down our personal thoughts on it in the latest episode of the Nintendo Entertainment Podcast, but there are still many questions about what the console will “truly be like” and what gamers will get to enjoy on it. So far, we only know that a new Mario Kart game is coming to the system and that a bunch of 3rd party titles are likely to be around at launch. That raises another interesting question, though. How many units does Nintendo hope to sell of the Switch 2 in its first release year?
That’s a very fair question and one that Bloomberg apparently tackled in a new article. In it, it talked about the reaction that people had to the Switch 2 reveal and noted that in Japan, The Big N’s stock actually fell for the first time in 3 months. It’s merely an overreaction, and by the time the April 2nd Direct gets here, it’ll surge well beyond where it’s at now.
As for the “unit goal” for the Nintendo Switch 2, Bloomberg claims that Nintendo has constructed a special “supply chain” so that it can get to 20 million units sold in its first year.
Bloomberg: Robin Zhu, an analyst at Sanford C. Bernstein, said ahead of the announcement that Nintendo has prepared a supply chain network that will allow the company to sell more than 20 million units in its first year. That compares with the current Switch’s sale of around 15… pic.twitter.com/w8by4I1TVD

That would be quite a feat, and as the tweet above notes, if it goes as planned, it’ll surpass what the OG Switch did in the same span of time. We’ll just need to wait for April to see what other games arrive to help sell the platform, and whether it really does come out in June or July like many predict.
