Report Shows Netflix Earns More from Anime Than Crunchyroll

According to a report that was aggregated by Parrot Analytics, Netflix has taken the top spot when it comes to generating revenue based on anime they have licensed. The report states that Netflix made $2.073 billion while Crunchyroll pulled in $1.161 billion. Hulu came in third place with $903 million and Amazon Prime came in fourth with $515 million.

These numbers indicate a shift towards mainstream acceptance in the West when it comes to anime, a trend that began during the 2020 pandemic and has continued to grow to this day.

This has caused streaming services to take notice and strategize on capitalizing on some of the more popular licenses. This is evident when Netflix took over the licensing for JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure when they added Stone Ocean in 2021.

The report also goes over the demographics showing that young males tend to favor Crunchyroll; however, numbers outside of those demographics don’t.

Netflix continues to push to bring anime to its widely installed userbase and looks to continue dipping its toes into the live-action anime adaption market to try and grow those demographics even more.
