The Story
Keita Imaizumi is a boy who isn’t much of a man. His friends think he acts like a girl and his father thinks that he needs to harden up. To do so, his father tells him that he’s going to be living on his own from now on. At school, a girl named Hamasaki learns of this and decides to stay with him… then two more of her friends do the same and now he’s finding himself alone in an apartment filled with cute girls!
The girls; however, love to tease Imaizumi… and by tease, I mean they love to get down and dirty with him as much as possible. In fact, they have a punishment card for him so that whenever he does anything they deem worthy of punishment, they mark it down until the card fills up… then it’s foursome time!
Ecchi isn’t the only thing this manga does, though. Seeing his classmates bully him over his timidness and feminine side makes you feel for Imaizumi and the girls do stick up for him. Especially when they realize that they are bleeding him dry from a financial standpoint. Rather than continue to take advantage of him, they offer to pitch him and even threaten him with punishment if he doesn’t accept their help!
Of course, punishment is still the name of the game and we close out our first volume with a unique punishment that was meant to just be something private… until the other girls return and witness the sight for themselves!
Characters
For a toned-down “made for TV” version of a straight-up hentai web manga, there is, surprisingly, a lot of character depth here.
First off, Imaizumi is the type of boy you can both feel sorry for and want to comfort at the same time. Being constantly teased for being more feminine than masculine is one thing but when you find out he’s getting to plow three chicks on a nightly basis, you kind of snicker at the fact that anyone doing the teasing has no clue what’s going on. Still, when his father threw him out and put him into this situation, you felt bad for him but when you realize what kind of situation he’s in, you kind of want to pat the father on the back and tell him “Good job.” Despite all of that, Imaizumi is a pretty nice character. He’s caring and considerate but he’s not spineless like more male MCs. He does have a backbone and shows it a few times throughout the volume
Hanasaki is a bit on the brash side but she’s not mean. She just has that tomboy-like attitude and she uses it to tease Imaizumi whenever she gets the chance to but she also has a caring side and shows that when she realizes that she and the other two girls are draining his bank account. She’s grateful for everything Imaizumi is doing for her and shows it in plenty of ways… even if it means sharing that gratitude with the other two girls… which is also a bit weird because as much as she doesn’t mind sharing, the girls do have a dynamic where they are a bit jealous of each other, too.
Next, we have Kurumizawa, or Ruri for short. She is the daughter of a successful businessman who is in the cosmetics industry and even developed her own product line. She’s pretty well-off and is more than happy to help Imaizumi with finances around the house. Plus, she’s got a thing for him too, and doesn’t have much shame as she “forgets” her notes and wants to snuggle up next to Imaizumi in class. Except, that’s not a pencil she’s reaching for! She also doesn’t care if Imaizumi catches her changing since they’ve gone a lot further than that so there’s no point in covering up around him when they’re home. She’s more of an “I don’t care” type of person but still stands out on her own versus the other girls.
Lastly, we have Sasaki. I see her as the least wild of the three and the one who may just have a genuine romantic interest in Imaizumi; however, she’s too uncertain to act upon it because of a lecture that her brother gave her about not trusting men too much when he, himself, isn’t exactly the model man. Despite the fact that he’s pretty much some lowkey thug who treats women as playthings, he still feels the need to protect his sister and tell her not to date men like him. He feels that if she opens her legs, she might get confused and think that’s what love truly is. Those thoughts hold her back even though she looks at Imaizumi differently than the other two.
Final Thoughts
Having read the, ahem, cultured version of this, I was a bit surprised when I saw Seven Seas Entertainment pick it up. After reading their version, I can safely say that this is definitely the “safe” version of the manga. This one actually has a plot, story, and character development versus the other where it’s just any excuse to have sex. Of course, I had to pick this up because once you see a train wreck, you can’t just look away; however, I think there is a lot of beauty to find in this train wreck.
To be honest, this took me by surprise. I didn’t expect much in the way of character development or plot and while the plot is about as thin as three sheets of paper, it’s there, and it’s three sheets of paper thicker than the original hentai version of this. The characters actually have depth and because of that, I honestly enjoyed this and will be picking up the second volume. This is more of a situational comedy with some ecchi sprinkled in and nothing that goes too hardcore. Of course, if that’s what you’re craving, I’m sure you find the OTHER version of this on them world wide interwebs somewhere.
Not bad at all!
