Udon Comics has handled both Street Fighter and Darkstalkers franchises in comic form for nearly 20 years. Nearly every Street Fighter game since 4 has been covered nearly side-by-side with their takes on the franchise’s events and creating new ones of their own. From the Guile vs Balrog brawl in the restaurant in Street Fighter #1 to Ken’s brush with Luke and the law in the Street Fighter VI’s books. Udon usually attempts to utilize nearly each character from the franchise including deep cuts.
This is the first time Udon will be bringing SNK characters to life. 48 pages may be able to handle the Millenium Fight 2000 and Mark of the Millenium 2001 plot or something from it. Udon has chosen to keep Kyo and Ryu back to rivalry. This is in contrast to the Capcom Fighting Collection 2 paying homage to Terry and Ryu’s original NA cover. Samurai Shodown‘s Haohmaru is somewhat staring into Project Justice‘s Kyosuke’s direction. Mai and Morrigan are also here.
The Comic Book History of Capcom vs SNK
This isn’t the first time the Capcom vs SNK collab has been covered in comic book form. SVC Chaos received a graphic novel series adaptation to explain most of the game’s aesthetic choices, matchups, and plot through long-time SNK comic artist Andy Seto. Seto had also worked on both Street Fighter and King of Fighters comic book stories. SVC Chaos was re-released on modern consoles and ecosystems earlier this year.
Capcom Fighting Collection 2 brings together more of Capcom’s back catalog of fighting games back from their 128 bit consoles of way back when. Power Stone, Power Stone 2, Capcom Fighting Evolution, Capcom vs SNK Pro, Capcom vs SNK 2, Project Justice, Street Fighter Alpha 3 UPPER and Plasma Sword, will be re-released for PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X | S, and Nintendo Switch. Each title will have all the modern features such as rollback netcode for online play and a robust training mode. Fans have been eagerly waiting for both Capcom vs SNK to reappear since its’ disappearance on digital. Availability, in physical, in other regions is pending at the time of this writing.
