A few weeks ago Blizzard announced a 30th Anniversary Warcraft stream, in which it aimed to “celebrate 30 years of Warcraft and look ahead to what’s next.” Announcing such a big stream ahead of time filled fans with wonder at what could be shown during this event. Today, one of those announcements may have been leaked a little early. Initially found by Wowhead, an internal update on Blizzard servers has seemingly revealed Warcraft II Remastered.
The server post simply titled “ Warcraft II Remastered Internal Alpha” also included several art assets for the unannounced game, which have begun to circulate online. Although there’s no other information at this time, it seems it won’t be very long until we hear more about it.
Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness was originally released in 1995 for MS-DOS and Windows and arrived on Mac a year later. It also came to PlayStation and SEGA Saturn that same year as a compilation, which included Warcraft II’s expansion Beyond the Dark Portal.
Considering the turmoil that surrounded the Warcraft III remaster and the sour reception of the rushed-out finished product Warcraft III: Reforged, there’s certainly hope for a proper remaster in the Warcraft universe more akin to the well-received 2017 Starcraft Remaster.
Expect more details on the game soon as Blizzard’s 30th anniversary Warcraft stream airs November 13 at 1:00 pm ET /10:00 am PT. Blizzard promises fans of any of their various Warcraft products will have something for them during the stream.
It’s a big year for the Warcraft universe and whether you’re a Hearthstone fan, you’ve joined the chaos in Warcraft Rumble, ventured into the world of Azeroth for the first time in Warcraft: Orcs and Humans, or you’re a World of Warcraft player, there’s something for everyone in our Warcraft 30th Anniversary Direct stream. You won’t want to miss a moment— or a single surprise.
Hopefully, Warcraft II Remastered wasn’t the only surprise set for the upcoming event.
